The Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index and King Khalid Responsible Competitiveness Awards 2010 launched at the GCF
Riyadh - Alex MacGillivray, Director and Paul Begley, Senior Principal at AccountAbility attended the 4th annual Global Competitiveness Forum (GCF) held in Riyadh from 23 -26 January 2010. Also attending the Forum - this year held under the theme 'Sustainable Competitiveness' - were former world leaders including former PM Tony Blair, and business leaders from the world's top 100 corporations, such as Jeffery Immelt, Chairman and CEO GE; James Wolfensohn, 9th President of the World Bank; John Chambers, Chairman and CEO, Cisco Systems among others.
The 2010 Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index and the King Khalid Responsible Competitiveness Awards were launched at the Forum, which has become an intellectual meeting point for world buisness leaders, influential academics and pioneers of new business thinking.
 | Now in it's second cycle, the Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index, an initiative of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA), the King Khalid Foundation, and AccountAbility looks at how companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are building competitive advantage by managing their social and environmental impacts. The Index is part of the Kingdom's initiative to be among the top 10 most competitive global economies by 2010. Download the 2010 paper.

The Index analyses how companies are aligning their core operations to societies' biggest challenges like the efficient use of water, creating efficient public services, and developing local talent. Companies that participated in the 2010 Index were double than last year's participants. An impressive 80 companies, with an estimated combined turnover of
USD$73 bn participating in the 2010 Index.
The top three firms which demonstrated excellence on the Index and which are making the most significant efforts to embed social and environmental issues into their core strategies were presented with the prestigious King Khalid Responsible Competitiveness Award, pictured above. The three winners stand out among this year's entrants for bold leadership, effective management systems and creative teamwork. These firms are outstanding in their ability to build social and environmental concerns into all their operations.
The Index highlights many success stories from the Saudi business community. Noteworthy examples include: ACWA Power International, Al Rahji Bank, Dr Soliman Faqeeh Hospital, KPMG Al-Fozan and Al-Sadham, Jamjoon Pharmaceuticals, Mathaher El-Tatweer Construction and the Middle Eastern Paper Company - all recognised for their contributions to sustainable competitiveness in the Kingdom.
